Advising the Australian Government on its new innovation strategy

SDG Economic Development is currently contributing to the consortium which is advising the Australian Government on the implementation of its new national strategy for innovation. This strategic plan will describe what the Australian innovation system should look like by 2030 and aims to lift national innovation performance above trends to date.

The advice is being provided to Innovation and Science Australia, an independent statutory board with responsibility for providing strategic whole-of-government advice to the Government on all science, research and innovation matters. The Board complements the Commonwealth Science Council, which continues to advise the Government on high-level science challenges facing Australia.

SDG Economic Development is working collaboratively with science and innovation policy consultants Technopolis in providing the international perspective to a domestic consortium led by the Australian consulting firm Howard Partners. The work involves extensive in-depth consultation processes at both group and individual levels, with SDG Economic Development’s team designing and delivering a methodology for quantifying opinion on the attractiveness and the feasibility of the strategic choices to be made.

This is a major national public policy project that reflects our interest and experience in providing economic development advice at a high-level for central government worldwide.
