Developing the economic case for improving the public realm on London’s Strand

SDG Economic Development is working with Steer Davies Gleave’s expert planning team and Westminster City Council to review and consider options for improving the public realm on London’s Strand, at the Aldwych Gyratory. The aim is to reduce the negative impacts of heavy traffic and to enhance pedestrian movement and connectivity in the area.

The options are a central part of the Northbank Business Improvement District’s Vision for Aldwych and includes plans to bring together the cultural and educational institutions in the area (including Somerset House, the Courtauld Gallery, King’s College London, and the London School of Economics) to host a curated programme of events and exhibitions in the new public space.

With a strong strategic case in place, SDG Economic Development’s role is to support the development of a robust economic case which quantifies the benefits of the various options, including the benefits from the use of new public space.

This is one of the several assignments in which SDG Economic Development’s specialists are working closely with Steer Davies Gleave’s wider Transport and Movement experts, bringing the best of the two worlds, and sharing best practise approaches and methods.
